MIDDLE EAST — On Saturday afternoon, Coalition forces intercepted and shot down an explosive-laden drone over Erbil at approximately 3:20 p.m. local time, according to information obtained by Kurdistan24 (KRG state-run media). No casualties or material damage were immediately reported.
The interception occurred one day after the Kurdistan Region’s Counter-Terrorism Service announced that Coalition forces destroyed five explosive-laden drones over Erbil between 9:32 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. local time.
Those drones had been launched from west of Erbil Governorate. The agency stated no casualties or damage occurred.
Kurdistan24 (KRG state-run media) cited intelligence attributing the Friday drones to outlawed armed groups operating from the outskirts of Mosul. Kurdistan Regional Government officials have repeatedly noted that the Iraqi federal government must act to stop such attacks.
No official statement from Coalition forces, U.S. Central Command, or Iraqi federal authorities on the Saturday incident has been located.
