Coast Guard Urges Preparedness Ahead of Tropical Storm Francine - US Coast Guard: As soon as it is safe to operate after a storm, the Coast Guard, along with our local first responders and federal partners, will provide the life-saving support needed in storm-stricken areas.
U.S. Coast Guard: NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard is preparing, Monday, and will respond to impacts from Tropical Storm Francine as it is expected to strengthen to a hurricane and make landfall along the Louisiana coast on Wednesday.
The Coast Guard’s ability to conduct rescues can be diminished or unavailable at the height of a storm. As soon as it is safe to operate after a storm, the Coast Guard, along with our local first responders and federal partners, will provide the life-saving support needed in storm-stricken areas. This includes reconstitution of ports as it becomes safe to do so.
The maritime community and boating public are strongly urged to track the storm’s progress and take action to protect themselves and their vessels. Extremely high seas, heavy rains, and damaging winds that accompany tropical storms and hurricanes present serious dangers to the public.
Dangerous weather conditions generated by a hurricane can cover an area hundreds of miles wide. Even recreational boaters and the maritime industry who fall outside of the direct path of the storm are advised to be aware of dangerous weather conditions and take appropriate precautions to stay safe and minimize damage.
People in distress should use 911 to request assistance whenever possible. Social media should not be used to report life-threatening distress due to limited resources to monitor the dozens of social media platforms during a hurricane or large-scale rescue event. U.S. Coast Guard Heartland Office: 504-671-2020 Cell: 618-225-9008. See Full Advisory.

Aurora Police Department Addresses Claims That Parts Of City Have Been Taken Over By Venezuelan Gang - While speaking on Fox News, Aurora Council Member Danielle Jurinsky said, "We currently have entire [apartment] complexes under gang control".
COLORADO - After an Aurora city council member claimed that the Venezuelan Tren de Aragua (TdA) gang has taken over parts of the city and is even running apartment complexes, the Aurora Police Department has released an update saying that they have created a special task force to investigate the concerns.
The police department said that they are aware the TdA is operating in Aurora but believe the influence the gang has on the city remains "isolated" and aren't aware of apartment buildings being taken over by the gang.
While speaking on Fox News, Aurora Council Member Danielle Jurinsky said, "We currently have entire complexes under gang control — complexes where staff have been beaten up, they've been threatened, their families have been threatened [and] complexes where there are no staff left on the property".
"These complexes are being run by this Tren de Aragua gang. They start brokering apartments themselves when someone leaves out of fear or whatever. They go in and take pictures of the apartment themselves. Then, I've been told, within hours, a Venezuelan family moves in."
She went on to say, "Parts of the city are absolutely under this gang control. The local media is downplaying this," she said. "I believe politics is being played with people's lives. ... Nothing is being done to help the American citizens that are being trapped under this gang's control."
"The number of emails coming in to me for help from residents and business owners, the volume is much higher. The allegations being made [regarding the activities being carried out by the gang] are types of crime that I've not heard of on a regular basis in our city," she continued. Data Breach Exposes 2.7 Billion Public Records On Nearly 3 Billion People To Dark Web - The alleged data stolen included: Full names, phone numbers, home addresses, physical address history (up to 3 decades), and social security numbers. Read Full Report.
CYBER - The "USDoD" hacking group claims to have stolen 2.7 billion records on around 2.9 billion people after a data breach on National Public Data (NPD) database containing personal data on virtually all American citizens and released most of it in a dark web marketplace where stolen data is sold off for $3.5 million USD.
Those who used data opt-out services did not show up in the database, according to a class-action lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Fort Lauderdale. Records offered by the hackers in an online forum included data from citizens from the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
The breach was detailed in a class action complaint that was filed in Florida against the NPD background-checking agency, alleging that the agency was exposed to a data breach around April of 2024.
National Public Data's website says that they obtain "information from various public record databases, court records, state and national databases, and other repositories nationwide".
The information allegedly leaked by NPD had been scraped from sources that were not public and the one who filed the complaint alleged this was done without their permission, or the permission of billions of others whose data was exposed during the breach. Read more

Temporary Gaza Aid Pier Mission Ended After 20 Million LBS Of Aid Delivered - The pier was projected by the Pentagon in April to cost around $320 million and was reduced by $90 million by the Pentagon in early June to $230 million. Read Full Report.
WASHINGTON - The Pentagon has announced that the Joint Logistics Over-the-Shore or JLOTS pier will no longer be used for transporting aid to Gaza after it said the temporary pier transported 20 million pounds of aid to the Strip in a “cost-effective manner”. It also added that land-routes are the most effective and efficient way to get aid into Gaza.
The pier was projected by the Pentagon in April to cost around $320 million and was reduced by $90 million by the Pentagon in early June. Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh said on June 5th that the pier cost approximately $230 million, and included “some” of the costs for repairing and rebuilding it after being damaged by rough seas.
Pentagon: Significant Savings On Temporary Pier In Gaza, Aid To Now Flow to Gaza via Land Route From Israel's Port of Ashdod: According to Singh on June 5th, when the temporary humanitarian aid pier was first announced the cost was estimated to be around $320 million, however lower-than-expected costs for the trucks that were contracted, the drivers, commercial vessels, and contribution from a British berthing vessel for soldiers and sailors, the cost was lowered to approximately $230 million.
Singh’s statement said at the time, “When we first announced this humanitarian maritime corridor, we estimated that the cost was approximately $320 million. However, lower-than-expected costs for contracted trucks, drivers, and commercial vessels, and the United Kingdom's contribution of a vert- — of — of a berthing vessel for our soldiers and sailors have lowered our cost — our latest cost assessment to approximately $230 million.”
She added, “While assessments are ongoing, this assessment — this estimate does include some of the costs associated with the repairs and rebuilding of the pier. And just as a reminder, these are estimates and initial assessments, and the cost could fluctuate depending on the length of the mission and future costs, an example of that being additional repairs.”
"As a reminder, these are estimates and initial assessments," Singh said, "and the cost could fluctuate depending on the length of the mission and future cost — an example of that being additional repairs."
She also said on June 5th, "I think it's important to remember that, for a little over a week, JLOTS was operating quite efficiently, [and] we were able to get … over 1,000 metric tons [of aid] into Gaza”.
"And it was successful in that regard, [so] we're going to work to continue to get humanitarian aid into the Palestinian people who need it most." Pentagon: JLOTS Mission Has Ended, Aid Will Flow To Gaza Via Israel’s Northern Border Crossing: Read More.

China, Russia Bolster Influence In Latin America - New satellite photo shows additions to space-monitoring sites in Bejcual and Calabazar, which the report said is "notable" since Cuba does not currently possess its own satellite or space program.
LATAM - New satellite imagery posted by Maxar Technologies indicates that China has been bolstering its "space monitoring" and intelligence-gathering capabilities at multiple bases in Latin America as Moscow and Beijing continue to gain military and economic influence in South America.
As China bolsters its ability to gather intelligence in Latin America, two Russian navy vessels docked in Venezuela on Tuesday to maintain its naval presence in the region after three Russian ships and a nuclear submarine visited Cuba earlier in early June.
China Bolstering Cuban Bases, Russian Navy Docks In Venezuela
Satellite images captured in March and April of this year were released in a report on Tuesday by the Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) that indicated that China has undergone new construction at three sites located near the American naval base at Guantanamo Bay.
Sites that show additions or new construction include: Bejcual, Calabazar, Wajay, and El Salao.
The new construction shows additions to its space-monitoring sites in Bejcual and Calabazar, which the report said is "notable" since Cuba does not currently possess its own satellite or space program.
“Without access to classified materials, pinpointing the specific targets of these assets is nearly impossible,” the report said, adding, "Nonetheless, the growth of space-monitoring equipment at sites like Bejucal and Calabazar is notable given that Cuba lacks its own satellites or space program".
The largest of the four sites where new activity was discovered was Bejucal, the same base used by the Soviet Union to store nuclear weapons during the 1962 Cuban missile crisis.
Where it was once a base used to store nuclear weapons, it is now being used as an intelligence monitoring station, which is suspected of being used to monitor electronic communications for the Chinese government.
The Bejucal site has undergone a large amount of recent construction, including a new enclosure for its electronic antenna. The new construction at the Wajay and Calabazar sites also indicates the installation of a new antenna, radar dishes, and other satellite monitoring equipment.
The El Salao site, which is located near the U.S. naval base at Guantanamo Bay close to the city of Santiago de Cuba looks to be currently under construction and poses a particular concern for the United States.
The CSIS report revealed that China appears to be building a 425 to 655-foot diameter antenna array, and added that other arrays with a similar diameter have been capable of tracking electronic signals up to 9,300 miles away. Antenna Array Of This Diameter Could Cover Entire North American Continent: Read Full Report.
BRICS Looks To Expand, De-Dollarize, De-weaponize Western Sanctions. Dollar Remains Strong - On January 1st, 2024 the organization, which previously only included Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, added four new members: Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
WORLD - More countries are voicing their intention to join BRICS, a geopolitical bloc that Beijing has pushed to become a full-scale rival to the Western G7 bloc. BRICS is an intergovernmental organization that brings together the world's top developing countries.
On January 1st, 2024 the organization, which previously only included Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, added four new members: Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Although Saudi Arabia was invited to join during the 15th BRICS summit, its approval has not yet been finalized.
BRICS To Become Larger, Seeks To Decouple From The US Dollar, De-Weaponize Sanctions
Russia and China have both called for the "reform of the global governance system", with Chinese President Xi Jinping voicing China's desire to lead the new system which reflects Beijing's values and goals.
The bloc has left the door open for future enlargement and has now seen dozens of new applications to join, with the latest being Malaysia and Thailand.
South African Ministry of Finance Enoch Godongwana said, "There is a second batch of countries that are going to be added [to] BRICS," indicating that it has left the door open for further expansion.
Beijing began pushing for the BRICS organization to establish itself more on the global stage in order to de-weaponize Western sanctions.
As the organization grows less dependent upon the U.S. dollar, the negative impact sanctions have on countries that are a part of it will decrease, making sanctions a less effective tool to urge compliance toward policy or diplomatic goals. Pentagon Statement: US Bases In Europe Under Heightened Alert. US Officials Warn Of Possible Terrorist Attacks, ISIS-Affiliated Networks Smuggling Illegals Into US - The DHS reported that an ISIS-affiliated human smuggling network aided over 400 illegal immigrants crossing the border to get into the United States illegally.
EUROPE - Many U.S. military bases located within Europe have been put on a heightened alert status ahead of possible terrorist attacks against facilities or personnel, according to U.S. defense officials who say the increase is due to several factors, and not related to a single threat alone.
U.S. counterterrorism officials have said that the Islamic State terrorist organization (IS, also known as ISIS, or ISIS-K) has been once again establishing itself in the Middle East, including Afghanistan, and has set its sights on Europe.
U.S. counterterrorism officials have also said that ISIS-K has been increasing their influence in “transnational” criminal networks and human smuggling rings in Europe and across the globe, which includes smuggling activities involving the U.S. borders.
The Department of Homeland Security said that an ISIS-affiliated human smuggling network aided over 400 illegal immigrants crossing the border to get into the United States illegally over the last three years.
There has been increased concern by U.S. officials that the increased flow of illegal immigrants crossing over into the United States has caught the attention of the Islamic State terrorist group.

Mexico: 1.39 Million People From Nearly Every Country In The World Traveling To Mexico To Get Into The US Illegally - Nearly every country in the world has had citizens travel through Mexico attempting to get into the United States illegally without papers.
MEXICO - According to the Mexican government on Sunday, about 1.39 million people from 177 different countries traveled through Mexico in an attempt to get into the United States illegally.
As there are 195 countries in the world, the 177-country figure indicates that nearly every country in the world has had citizens travel through Mexico attempting to get into the United States without papers.
Mexico's National Migration Institute reported figures from January to May of this year and stated that most of those traveling across Mexico to get into the United States were people traveling alone, with nearly 3,000 being minors without the accompaniment of an adult.
380,000 of those attempting to gain access to the United States through Mexico were coming from Venezuela, after which are: Guatemala, Honduras, Ecuador, and Haiti. Others came from China, India, Mauritania and Angola, according to the institute.
Some Chinese citizens who have successfully gained entrance into the United States illegally were issued IDs by Mexico labeling them as "humanitarian workers" or "visitors" which one U.S. senator says is likely so that the Chinese nationals can show that they have a valid reason to be in Mexico.
According to U.S. figures, about 2.4 million people crossed over the southern border with Mexico to gain entrance into the United States illegally, or without proper documentation, with a record 10,000 illegal entries per day in December.
The number of illegals entering the United States from the southern border has decreased since then as the United States and Mexico have implemented some measures to try to tackle the issue due to the high volume coming over the border. US Submarine Arrives In Guantanamo Bay, Near US Base In Cuba - The Department of Defense said the Pentagon has been tracking Russia's plans for carrying the exercises in the region and that the visit wasn't a surprise.
CUBA - A U.S. Navy nuclear-powered fast attack submarine has arrived in Guantanamo Bay, near the American base in Cuba as part of what U.S. Southern Command says is a "routine visit", but coincides with a visit by four Russian naval vessels, including one of its nuclear-powered submarines, which Moscow says is intended to send a message to Washington, along with its recent joint nuclear exercises with Belarus.
U.S. Southern Command released a statement that said, "The fast-attack submarine USS Helena is in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba as part of a routine port visit as it transits the U.S. Southern Command geographic area of responsibility while conducting its global maritime security and national defense mission. The vessel's location and transit were previously planned."
Although the United States stated that the Russian visit to Cuba did not pose a threat to the U.S. and that none of the vessels appeared to be carrying nuclear weapons, the ships were shadowed and tracked by the U.S. forces during their voyage to the port in Havana, Cuba. Federal Reserve To Maintain Interest Rate. No Changes For The Time Being - FOMC Statement: "Inflation has eased over the past year but remains elevated. In recent months, there has been modest further progress toward the Committee's 2 percent inflation objective".
WASHINGTON - Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell has issued a Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) statement stating that the interest rate will remain the same for the time being as the Committee “seeks to achieve maximum employment and inflation at the rate of 2 percent over the longer run”.
Federal Reserve FOMC statement: “Recent indicators suggest that economic activity has continued to expand at a solid pace. Job gains have remained strong, and the unemployment rate has remained low.
Inflation has eased over the past year but remains elevated. In recent months, there has been modest further progress toward the Committee's 2 percent inflation objective. The Committee seeks to achieve maximum employment and inflation at the rate of 2 percent over the longer run.
The Committee judges that the risks to achieving its employment and inflation goals have moved toward better balance over the past year. The economic outlook is uncertain, and the Committee remains highly attentive to inflation risks.
In support of its goals, the Committee decided to maintain the target range for the federal funds rate at 5-1/4 to 5-1/2 percent. In considering any adjustments to the target range for the federal funds rate, the Committee will carefully assess incoming data, the evolving outlook, and the balance of risks.
The Committee does not expect it will be appropriate to reduce the target range until it has gained greater confidence that inflation is moving sustainably toward 2 percent.
In addition, the Committee will continue reducing its holdings of Treasury securities and agency debt and agency mortgage‑backed securities. The Committee is strongly committed to returning inflation to its 2 percent objective.
In assessing the appropriate stance of monetary policy, the Committee will continue to monitor the implications of incoming information for the economic outlook. The Committee would be prepared to adjust the stance of monetary policy as appropriate if risks emerge that could impede the attainment of the Committee's goals.
The Committee's assessments will take into account a wide range of information, including readings on labor market conditions, inflation pressures and inflation expectations, and financial and international developments.” FOMC Video, Statements, Inflation Data, Notes: Read more.
Russian Navy Docks In Cuba, Moscow Carries Out Nuclear Exercise With Belarus To Send "A Message To Washington" (Report) - Russian state-run media reported that the purpose of the visit to Havana, Cuba, and the nuclear drills was to send a message to Washington.
RUSSIA/CUBA - Russian vessels have docked in Havana, Cuba for a planned visit, while Russian nuclear forces carry out joint exercises with Belarus to send “a message to Washington”.
The Russian Ministry of Defense said the purpose of the joint nuclear drills with Belarus was to maintain the readiness of the armed forces of Belarus and Russia, as well as to ensure its territorial integrity.
The Ministry of Defense stated, “During the exercise, issues of joint training of units of the armed forces of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus for the combat use of non-strategic nuclear weapons will be worked out”.
Russian state-run news agency RIA Novosti reported that the purpose of the visit to Havana, Cuba, and the nuclear drills was to send a message to Washington. It said, “The fact is that tactical nuclear weapons, unlike strategic ones, have not been the subject of international agreements in which Russia participates, so the number of such ammunition in arsenals is not known for certain”.
It also claimed that the Kinzhal hypersonic missiles, which can carry both a conventional or a nuclear warhead are invulnerable to air defense systems and have been used “more than once” to strike Ukrainian military targets. Read more.
8 Suspected ISIS Terrorists Arrested In The US After Crossing Southern Border And Initially Released Into The US - The sting operation, which arrested 8 Tajikistan nationals, was carried out by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) along with the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force.
US/MEXICO - In a sting operation that spanned multiple states, 8 suspected terrorists with connections to ISIS-K were arrested in Philadelphia, New York City, and Los Angeles after crossing over the southern border and being initially fully vetted and released into the United States.
The sting operation, which arrested 8 Tajikistan nationals, was carried out by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) along with the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force, according to federal authorities.
The Tajikistan nationals were initially vetted, during which no derogatory information or national security concerns were found by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and were released into the United States.
After being released into the U.S., however, concerns by U.S. authorities grew that they were found to have connections with ISIS-K, with one of the suspects being wiretapped and found to be talking about bombs.
The suspect found to be talking about bombs via the wiretap was one who had been released after having been arrested by authorities and released into the United States. The suspect had a court date set for next year before it was found he had connections to the ISIS-K terrorist group.
A DHS, FBI joint statement said, "Over the last few days, ICE agents arrested several non-citizens pursuant to immigration authorities. The actions were carried out in close coordination with the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Forces.
The individuals arrested are detained in ICE custody pending removal proceedings. As the FBI and DHS have recently described in public and partner bulletins, the U.S. has been in a heightened threat environment.
The FBI and DHS will continue working around the clock with our partners to identify, investigate, and disrupt potential threats to national security." Multiple Terrorist Suspects Caught At Southern Border Have Been Released Into The United States Recently: Read More.

US Carries Out Minuteman III ICBM Test To Demonstrate Nuclear Deterrent, Reassure Allies - "This test launch is part of routine and periodic activities intended to demonstrate that the United States’ nuclear deterrent is safe, secure, reliable, and effective to deter 21st-century threats".
CALIFORNIA - The United States carried out a test of an unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) equipped with one re-entry vehicle on June 4th, 2024 from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.
"This test launch is part of routine and periodic activities intended to demonstrate that the United States’ nuclear deterrent is safe, secure, reliable, and effective to deter 21st-century threats and reassure our allies," the U.S. Air Force stated.
US Air Force: Minuteman III test launch showcases readiness of U.S. nuclear force's safe, effective deterrent
US Air Force: BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. -- A joint team of Air Force Global Strike Command Airmen supported by Space Force Guardians launched an unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile equipped with one re-entry vehicle at 12:56 a.m. Pacific time June 4 from Vandenberg Space Force Base, California.
This test launch is part of routine and periodic activities intended to demonstrate that the United States’ nuclear deterrent is safe, secure, reliable and effective to deter 21st century threats and reassure our allies. Such tests have occurred over 300 times before, and this test is not the result of current world events.
“Our Strikers and our nuclear mission are the bedrock of our nation’s defense and international security,” said Gen. Thomas A. Bussiere, commander, Air Force Global Strike Command.
“As part of that mission, our ICBM force provides 24/7 strategic deterrence and stand ready to respond at a moment’s notice as the most responsive leg of the nuclear triad, and our test launches demonstrate and confirm our readiness to deliver a safe, secure, effective, and credible, global combat capability.”
The ICBM's re-entry vehicle traveled approximately 4,200 miles to the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command's Ronald Reagan Ballistic Missile Defense Test Site on the U.S. Army Garrison-Kwajalein Atoll, Republic of the Marshall Islands.
Reagan Test Site sensors, including high-fidelity metric and signature radars, as well as optical sensors and telemetry, support the research, development, test and evaluation of America's defense and space programs.
For these tests, RTS team members collect radar, optical and telemetry data in the terminal phase of flight to evaluate system performance.
"RTS brings a range of sensors with decades of experience in collecting and analyzing truth data to support range customers," said Col. Juan R. Santiago, Reagan Test Site director.
“The U.S. nuclear enterprise is the cornerstone of security for our allies and partners across the globe,” said Col. Chris Cruise, commander of the 377th Test and Evaluation Group.
“Today’s test launch is just one example of how our nation’s ICBMs, and the professional Airmen who maintain and operate them, demonstrate the readiness and reliability of the weapon system. It showcases our commitment to deterrence as we stand on continuous alert, 24/7/365.”
The test launch is a culmination of months of preparation that involve multiple government partners, including the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center.
Airmen from the all three missile wings were selected for the task force to support the test launch, and maintainers from 90th Missile Wing at FE Warren Air Force Base, Wyoming, provided maintenance support. The missile bases within Air Fore Global Strike Command have crew members standing alert 24 hours a day, year-round, overseeing the nation’s ICBM alert forces.
The ICBM community, including the Department of Defense, the Department of Energy and U.S. Strategic Command, uses data collected from test launches for continuing force development evaluation.
The ICBM test launch program demonstrates the operational capability of the Minuteman III and ensures the United States’ ability to maintain a strong, credible nuclear deterrent as a key element of U.S. national security and the security of U.S. allies and partners.
Air Force Global Strike Command is a major command with headquarters at Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana, in the Shreveport-Bossier City community.
The command oversees the nation's three intercontinental ballistic missile wings, the Air Force’s entire bomber force, to include B-52, B-1 and B-2 wings, the Long Range Strike Bomber program, Air Force Nuclear Command, Control and Communications systems, and operational and maintenance support to organizations within the nuclear enterprise.
Approximately 33,700 professionals are assigned to two Numbered Air Forces, nine wings, two geographically-separated squadrons and one detachment in the continental United States and deployed to locations around the globe. AFGSC marks its 15th year anniversary in 2024.
The LG-35A Sentinel will replace the Minuteman III ICBM with an initial capability of 2029. Until full capability is achieved in the mid-2030s, the Air Force is committed to ensuring Minuteman III remains a viable deterrent.

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence’s 2023 Annual Threat Assessment states that “…Russia will remain a top cyber threat as it refines and employs its espionage, influence, and attack capabilities” and that, “…Russia is particularly focused on improving its ability to target critical infrastructure, including underwater cables and industrial control systems, in the United States as well as in allied and partner countries, because compromising such infrastructure improves and demonstrates its ability to damage infrastructure during a crisis.”
Recent Russian state-sponsored activity has included destructive malware and ransomware operations. Prioritizing patching of known exploited vulnerabilities is key to strengthening operational resilience against this threat.
Organizations should also take the following three steps to strengthen operational resilience against Russian state-sponsored cyber activity: Implement and enforce the use of multifactor authentication (MFA), Secure and monitor instances of remote desktop protocol (RDP) and other potentially risky services, and Provide end-user cybersecurity awareness and training. Pentagon: Russia Launched Likely Counter-Space Weapon In The Same Low-Earth Orbit As US Government Satellite This Month - In 2021 Russia carried out an anti-satellite (ASAT) test on one of its own satellites and created thousands of pieces of dangerous space debris. Read Alert | Read Full Report On SJ.
PENTAGON - Russia has launched a low-orbit satellite that the Department of Defense assesses is likely a counter-space weapon which it says it presumes has the purpose of attacking other satellites in low orbit around the earth.
Furthermore, the orbit of the device launched by Russia has been placed within the same orbit as a U.S. Government satellite, according to the Pentagon, which says it's currently monitoring the device.
Pentagon Press Secretary Pat Ryder said during a briefing, "we have a responsibility to be ready to protect and defend the domain - the space domain and ensure continuous and uninterrupted support to the Joint and Combined Force.
And we'll continue to balance the need to protect our interests in space with our desire to preserve a stable and sustainable space environment."
Ryder said during the briefing, "What I'm tracking here is on May 16th, as you highlight, Russia launched a satellite into low Earth orbit that we - that we assess is likely a counter-space weapon presumably capable of attacking other satellites in low Earth orbit.
Russia deployed this new counter-space weapon into the same orbit as a U.S. government satellite. And so assessments further indicate characteristics resembling previously deployed counter-space payloads from 2019 and 2022. And so, you know, obviously that's something that we'll continue to monitor.
Certainly, we would say that we have a responsibility to be ready to protect and defend the domain - the space domain and ensure continuous and uninterrupted support to the Joint and Combined Force. And we'll continue to balance the need to protect our interests in space with our desire to preserve a stable and sustainable space environment."
When Ryder was asked whether it posed a threat to the U.S. Government satellite right now, he replied and said, "Well, it's a counter-space weapon in the same orbit as a U.S. government satellite, so.."
When asked if the Pentagon knew there was a launch by Russia into space he said, "Typically when there - when there are launches into space, there are requirements in terms of notifications - international notifications, notifications to airmen, things like that.
So the question is did we have advanced notice of that launch? As it relates to payloads and - and what we know about and what we don't know about, i.e. intelligence, that - that is not something I can get into."
During a United Nations Security Council meeting on a resolution on the prevention of an arms race in outer space & outer space security, Robert Wood, U.S. representative in the UN, highlighted Russia's actions in space & how the U.S. will continue to demonstrate safe space activities.
During the meeting, he addressed the launch by Russia, saying that the United States will continue to put a "bright spotlight" on Russia's "troubling actions in space", and how the actions "diverge from its statements here in the Security Council".
He told the Security Council, "On March 16th Russia launched a satellite into low-earth orbit that the United States assesses is likely a counter-space weapon that is presumably capable of attacking other satellites in low-earth orbit.
Russia deployed this new counter-space weapon in the same orbit as a U.S. Government satellite. Russia's May 16 launch follows prior Russian satellite launches likely of counter-space systems into low-earth orbit in 2019 and 2022".

China: Inauguration Speech By New Taiwanese President "Confession Of Taiwan Independence", Beijing Must Take "Countermeasures" - Head of Indo-Pacific Command: The Chinese President has told the military to be prepared to execute an attack on Taiwan by 2027.
BEIJING/TAIPEI - After the inauguration of the new Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te, Beijing said that the speech made by Lai could be described as a "confession of Taiwan independence" and said that Beijing "must take countermeasures" in response and "punish them".
In April, Admiral John Aquilino, commander of the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command repeated earlier warnings by other senior U.S. officials that said Chinese President Xi Jinping has told his military to be prepared to execute an attack on Taiwan by 2027.
Aquilino's comments echoed previous warnings by other officials. In 2023, United States Air Force General Mike Minihan who serves as head of the United States Air Force's Air Mobility Command said in a leaked memo that he believed the U.S. would be at war with China by 2025.
China's Taiwan Affairs Office said that Beijing "Must take countermeasures and penalize the DPP authorities for colluding with external forces in their provocations for independence".

Increase Of Cyberattacks On Critical US Water Infrastructure. Every Critical Infrastructure Sector Targeted - EPA Deputy Administrator Janet McCabe reported cyberattacks against critical water infrastructure have become not only more frequent but have also increased in severity.
UNITED STATES - The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has released an "Enforcement Alert" to address cybersecurity vulnerabilities of the country's drinking water after EPA Deputy Administrator Janet McCabe reported cyberattacks against critical water infrastructure have become not only more frequent but have also increased in severity.
In light of both the increase in reported attacks on the water supply and an increase in vulnerabilities found in the country's water systems, the EPA urged water systems to act immediately to take steps to protect the nation's drinking water.
Not only have cyberattacks become more frequent and severe against critical infrastructure, but the EPA says that around 70% of the water utilities inspected by the federal government over the last year were in violation of cybersecurity standards put into place to prevent attacks on the systems.
McCabe said in many cases systems are not doing what they should be doing and have no available plans for vulnerability prevention. As the water systems often rely on computers with operating systems, some of the ways the utilities failed the standards: Failing to change default passwords for equipment, Failing to lock out system access to ex-employees.
Cyberattacks on water systems can lead to numerous problems with either the water supply or the alteration of the chemical composition of the water to hazardous levels: Interruption in the water treatment process; Interruption in the water storage process; Damage to valves that control the water flow; Damage to the water pumps; Altering of the water's chemical composition; Change of chemical levels to dangerous amounts.
“In many cases, systems are not doing what they are supposed to be doing, which is to have completed a risk assessment of their vulnerabilities that includes cybersecurity and to make sure that plan is available and informing the way they do business,” McCabe stated.
McCabe: Cyberattacks On Water Infrastructure Are Not Just Private Individuals, Many Government-Backed Entities. FDA: Every US Critical Infrastructure Sector Has Been Targets Of Cyberattacks: McCabe said that cyberattacks on the nation's water infrastructure are not just private individuals, but many are government-backed entities trying to knock out the water supply for both residential homes, as well as businesses.
Some of the governments she named as attempting to disable the U.S. water supply are: Russia, China, Iran. These countries are “actively seeking the capability to disable U.S. critical infrastructure, including water and wastewater," she stated.
“We want to make sure that we get the word out to people that ‘Hey, we are finding a lot of problems here,’ ” she said.
In April McCabe said that Cybersecurity threats "pose serious risks to the drinking water and wastewater services that people in this country rely on every day, and recent cyber attacks on water systems underscore the urgency of increased and coordinated action". CALIFORNIA - A Californian Mayor has released a video showing "hundreds of passports and credit cards" torn up and discarded by the border in San Diego, California, many of whom are Chinese nationals, some of whom are using Mexican IDs to gain access to the southern border so that they can cross over into the United States.
The Major said that the blue IDs are issued in China, the yellow IDs are issued by Mexico. He said that most of the IDs of Chinese nationals were issued by Mexico labeling them as "humanitarian workers" or "visitors" which he said is likely so that the Chinese nationals can show that they have a valid reason to be in Mexico.
Mayor of El Cajon, California Bill Wells said, "I talked to the border patrol guys, they're all ready to quit. They say it's just insanely out of control," he said, adding "They think people don't care and have no sense of how big the problem is".
He added, "The American people really need to wake up to how significant this problem really is."
U.S. border patrol authorities detained more than 24,000 Chinese citizens crossing the southern border in the 2023 fiscal year, which was 12 (nearly 13) times more than was recorded the previous year (fiscal year 2022).
Wells pointed out that IDs from other countries, such as Turkey are also being found, as well as other locations within Central America and the Middle East, though most of them he said were Chinese nationals. Read Full Report | Read All Reports On North America.
