Unknown Projectile Reported to Hit Tanker in Strait of Hormuz
MIDDLE EAST — On October 1 a maritime reporting center received a third-party report that an unknown projectile had struck a tanker transiting the Strait of Hormuz, the waterway between Iran and Oman, and that a fire had started.
The report said the crew was safe, and it left the damage assessment and any environmental effect unknown. It did not name the tanker, the projectile, or who fired.

Strait of Hormuz, between Iran and Oman’s Musandam Peninsula: the October 1 warning and the four earlier reports place the strikes in the strait, including one outbound case in the southern quarter. No strike coordinate was published.

Khor Fakkan, United Arab Emirates: the September 29 outbound tanker was reported in the vicinity of this Gulf of Oman port after the strike, with its damage assessment not finished. GeoNames, the gazetteer cited for the city, places Khor Fakkan at 25.33, 56.34.

MARAD, Advisory 2026-011: active guidance for the Persian Gulf, Strait of Hormuz, and Gulf of Oman, effective September 9 and set to expire March 8, 2027. It superseded advisory 2026-004. It is a standing hazard advisory, not a numbered threat grade, and it does not mention Warning 147-26.

UKMTO Warning 147-26 said an unknown projectile struck a tanker in the Strait of Hormuz after the center received a third-party report at 5:50 PM UTC on October 1 (9:50 PM Gulf Standard Time).

UKMTO 146-26, which UKMTO called high confidence, reported an unknown projectile striking an inbound tanker on September 29, and JMIC left the crew and vessel status under investigation.

In a separate September 29 case, U.S. Navy Naval Cooperation and Guidance for Shipping (NCAGS), the Navy office that organizes commercial shipping with naval forces, reported through JMIC that an unknown projectile struck an inbound tanker, which returned to its last port with the crew safe and no environmental damage reported.

UKMTO 144-26 reported an outbound tanker struck on the port side on September 29, with the crew safe and the ship in the vicinity of Khor Fakkan while the damage assessment was unfinished.

On September 28, UKMTO 143-26 reported an outbound tanker struck in the southern quarter of the strait. A small fire was put out, the crew was safe, and the ship continued.
Iran, Oman and the UAE Has Not Commented
By 9:00 PM UTC on October 1 (1:00 AM Gulf Standard Time on October 2), Iran’s Foreign Ministry and the IRGC had issued no statement on Warning 147-26. Oman’s Foreign Ministry and the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs had not commented on that warning by the same time.
