Iran Fires Ballistic Missiles Toward Israel, U.S. Regional Forces At Heightened Alert
MIDDLE EAST — Iranian forces launched multiple waves of ballistic missiles toward Israeli territory beginning June 7. Israeli air defense systems engaged the missiles while sirens activated across several areas through June 8.
The strikes marked the first direct Iranian missile attack on Israel since the April ceasefire. Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters channels designated the operation as Operation True Promise 5, describing it as a conditional response to Israeli strikes on Hezbollah targets in Beirut’s Dahieh suburb earlier on June 7.
Iranian Missile Salvos Trigger Nationwide Alert As Defenses Engage
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported identification of missiles launched from Iran toward Israel on June 7, with defensive systems engaging immediately and nationwide alerts following subsequent volleys on June 8.
U.S. Air Force units across the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Jordan, and Kuwait placed personnel on heightened alert status.

At Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing (AEW) directed transition to uniform force-protection posture level 2 with Individual Protective Equipment available within two minutes, effective immediately on the evening of June 7 local time.
The 379th Air Expeditionary Wing directive stated, “For Al Udeid AB, Qatar: Effective immediately, the 379 AEW/CC has directed uniform posture 2, Individual Protective Equipment (IPE) available within 2 minutes.”
Qatar’s Civil Aviation Authority issued Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) actions on June 7 requiring aircraft in the Doha Flight Information Region to use designated alternate waypoints and routes avoiding certain airways near the Iranian border.
The measures remain effective through June 14. Hamad International Airport continued normal operations under adjusted routing according to reviewed civil aviation actions.
Iraqi authorities addressed closure of airspace and suspension of navigation at Baghdad International Airport on June 8, aligning with broader regional aviation restrictions implemented during the exchange.
Israeli forces conducted strikes on IRGC facilities and positions in northwestern Iran, including areas near Tabriz. Reporting described explosions consistent with strike activity near IRGC compounds and the airport area. Iranian state-linked channels reported air defense activity in response.
