U.S. Secret Service Agents and Deputy Fatally Shoot Armed Intruder at Mar-a-Lago Perimeter

FLORIDA - On February 22, around 1:30 a.m., a male in his early 20s drove into the secure perimeter of Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach as another vehicle was exiting and was shot and killed by U.S. Secret Service agents and a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office deputy. The individual carried what appeared to be a shotgun and a fuel can.

The man was observed near the north gate. Law enforcement confronted him during the encounter. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

No U.S. Secret Service or Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office personnel were injured. No Secret Service protectees were present. President Trump was in Washington, D.C., at the time.

The individual’s identity remains withheld pending notification of next of kin. Shots were fired by law enforcement. The man drove past a security point into an inner perimeter area.

The FBI, U.S. Secret Service, and Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the individual’s background, actions, potential motive, and the use of force. Involved Secret Service agents are on routine administrative leave per agency policy.

  U.S. Secret Service agents and a PBSO deputy confronted the individual and shots were fired by law enforcement during the encounter. No U.S. Secret Service or PBSO personnel were injured. There were no Secret Service protectees present at the location at the time of the incident.

  The incident, including the individual’s background, actions, potential motive, and the use of force, is under investigation by the FBI, the U.S. Secret Service, and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office. In accordance with agency policy, the involved Secret Service agents will be placed on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.”
