U.S. Forces Conduct Airstrike Targeting al-Shabaab Militants Southwest of Mogadishu Amid Sustained Campaign

SOMALIA - In coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia, United
States Africa Command executed an airstrike against al-Shabaab
militants on January 29, approximately 56 kilometers southwest of
Mogadishu.
The operation formed part of a series that included 23 U.S.
airstrikes in Somalia during January, aimed at degrading the group’s
capabilities. No details on militant casualties appeared in official
assessments.
Operational Details
The airstrike took place in a remote area southwest of the capital, where al-Shabaab holds sway. U.S. Africa Command characterized the action as essential to mitigate threats to U.S. forces and citizens abroad. Somali Armed Forces collaborated in the effort, consistent with joint initiatives to curb militant operations.
Earlier strikes in the month employed comparable methods, often aiding ground troops. For example, an airstrike on January 12 targeted militants northeast of Mogadishu, demonstrating persistent pressure on al-Shabaab sites.
